We're looking for an Engineering Director to be part of building a unified experience across four core markets, supported by a modern, scalable core banking system.
The Engineering team collaborates closely with Product and Design to deliver a solution that small businesses love.As we scale, we're seeking an inspiring Engineering Director to lead this domain, following the promotion of the former Director to VP.
📋 Your role as Engineering Director of Banking
- Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you’ll be responsible for driving the engineering strategy, delivery, and team development for our Banking domain.You will:
- Lead a team of 7+ Engineering Managers and 40+ engineers across multiple locations.
- Define and execute the engineering vision for banking systems that are secure, scalable, and user-centric.
- Partner with Product, Design, and Operations to align on roadmap and delivery goals.
- Build a cohesive and inclusive culture post-merger, fostering clarity and engagement.Improve engineering processes and delivery efficiency—without compromising on quality.
- Be a visible and trusted leader, supporting and growing your team through feedback, coaching, and career development.
Your first 12 months:
- Build trust with your team, stakeholders, and peers.
- Align on team strategy and delivery plans.
- Identify major bottlenecks and define contingency plans.
- Launch of a new banking engine in our core market.
- Drive OKR adoption and lead performance reviews.
- Improve team processes and health (hiring, rituals, cross-team efforts).
- Successfully launch banking offers in new markets.
- Empower team members through retention, promotion, and engagement.
- Lead the merger of Banking with Accounting & Invoicing products.
🔎 About you
You are a servant leader with high standards, and a track record of building high-performing teams in complex, fast-moving environments. You bring:
Must-have experience:
- 5+ years of engineering leadership in a startup or scale-up, including managing multiple teams and engineering managers.
- Proven ability to lead in multicultural, distributed environments.
- Fluency in French language
- Excellent communication in English
- Strong technical leadership: from technical architecture to operational excellence.
- Educational background in Engineering and/or strong project management skills.
- Experience building cloud-native, reliable systems at scale.
Core competencies:
- Create clarity and momentum in ambiguous and complex contexts.
- Align and inspire teams around strategy, mission, and OKRs.
- Foster an environment of psychological safety and continuous feedback.
- Navigate trade-offs between user experience and security/regulatory constraints.
- Act as a spokesperson for engineering internally and externally.
Nice-to-have experience:
- Deep understanding of fintech, banking operations, or regulated environments.
- Experience working on core banking systems or financial product platforms.
- Track record of growing diverse and inclusive teams.
📍Job located in Paris or Berlin with 2 remote days per week.
