Senior Ruby / Rails Developer with Agentic Development Mindset

We are looking to hire a seasoned RoR developer who thrives in autonomous, outcome-driven environments and is excited about modern, agentic software development practices.

You would join an ambitious team of professionals with experience from leading startups and corporates in Europe, Africa, and the US.

Fuzu builds and operates a career development platform that helps people accelerate their growth through career guidance, learning, and inspirational content and serves AI-first organizations with remote workforce to develop and finetune their models. This position includes

Ownership & Agentic Collaboration

• Operate with a high degree of autonomy, taking end-to-end ownership of problems rather than just tasks.

• Collaborate closely with the Head of Engineering, product management, design, DevOps and AI experts to shape solutions—not just implement requirements.

• Actively contribute to improving how we build software, including the use of AI-assisted and agentic development workflows.

Feature Development & Machine Learning

• Design, implement, and optimize backend features such as API endpoints, background jobs, and data pipelines.

• Work closely and contribute to AI components, integrating and iterating on ML-driven features (e.g. personalization, recommendations).

Code Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Maintain high standards of code quality through testing, reviews, and refactoring.

• Use modern tooling (including AI-based developer tools where appropriate) to accelerate feedback loops and improve developer productivity.

Technical Planning & Decision-Making

• Evaluate technical feasibility, trade-offs, and ROI of proposed solutions.

• Participate actively in sprint planning, technical discovery, and architectural discussions, bringing a strong problem-solving mindset.

Documentation, Integration & Performance

• Create clear technical documentation that supports independent and scalable development.

• Integrate backend services with our React frontend and third-party systems.

• Continuously improve platform performance, reliability, and observability, and resolve production issues proactively.

What we expect from you

Experience

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong expertise in Ruby on Rails.

• Experience in SaaS and/or high-growth startup environments is a plus.

Agentic Development Mindset (Strong Preference)

• Experience working in highly autonomous environments where developers identify problems, propose solutions, and drive execution.

• OR strong interest and motivation to develop skills in agentic software development, including:

  • Using AI tools as collaborators, not just utilities

  • Short feedback loops and rapid experimentation

  • Outcome-oriented development rather than ticket-driven work

Technical Skills

• Strong backend development skills; full-stack experience is a plus.

• Familiarity with React, Python, PostgreSQL, AWS, and modern cloud-native tooling is beneficial.

Data-Driven & Systems Thinking

• Ability to evaluate the impact of solutions using data and user outcomes.

• Comfort reasoning about systems, trade-offs, and long-term maintainability.

Machine Learning Exposure

• Experience with ML-adjacent projects (e.g. data classification, NLP, recommender systems) is a plus.

Remote & Self-Steering

• Comfortable working remotely with high autonomy.

• Able to self-prioritize, manage ambiguity, and proactively surface risks and opportunities.

Communication & Problem Solving

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation.

• Excellent problem-solving ability, with a structured and pragmatic approach.
