The Role

We're looking for a Lead Backend Engineer to be the technical backbone of our product team. You'll work directly with the founders, own backend architecture, and set the bar for how we build, while still writing a lot of code yourself. This is a hands-on lead role where your output and judgment shape both the product and the team around you.

Key Responsibilities

• Own backend architecture and make pragmatic, well-reasoned technical decisions

• Write production-quality code daily, leveraging AI tools to move fast without cutting corners

• Review code from junior devs and help them level up, through feedback, not just rewrites

• Work closely with the founders to translate product goals into technical execution

• Help establish engineering standards, patterns, and best practices as the team grows

• Tackle the hard problems: EHR integrations, RPAs, data reliability at scale

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of backend or fullstack development experience, with Python as your primary language

• Strong FastAPI knowledge; comfortable with async patterns, API design, and system architecture

• Experience with cloud infrastructure

• Someone who genuinely uses AI coding tools (Cursor, Windsurf, Claude, Copilot) and can help others do the same

• Comfortable with ambiguity, we're a startup, and things move fast

• Experience in health IT, EHR integrations, or regulated/data-sensitive domains is a plus
